Generally, when starting with a new client, I like to do an overall ayurvedic assessment. This gives me a solid picture of a person from ayurvedic, psychological and emotional standpoints.
I can also do "goal-oriented" consultations such as how to meditate, starting a spiritual practice, yogic breathing, guided meditation, etc.
Ayurvedic Assessment The initial ayurvedic assessment consultation takes place in two parts. Part One Once we've agreed on an initial meeting time, I'll email you 2 forms to complete. One is a consent form that acknowledges that I'm not a licensed health-care provider (the practice of ayurveda is currently unlicensed in the U.S.), that I don't take the place of your physician and a few other formalities. The second is a family and personal health history so that I can assess your genetic predisposition to disease and be informed of any surgeries, major illnesses, medications/supplements you're taking.
Our first meeting will take 60 to 90 minutes. We'll review your health history and discuss your diet and daily routine. You'd be surprised how much information is transferred when we discuss these two topics alone! We'll identify the issues you believe need attention as well as conditions I observe.
I may take your pulse, examine your tongue and look at your fingernails. Throughout the session, I'll be talking about ayurvedic principles relevant to you and your condition. I'll also be determining and discussing with you which treatment modalities we can use to begin the journey toward your state of balance.
Along the way, treatment ideas pop into my head so I tend to ask questions about what you are comfortable doing to fix your imbalances. Some examples are: Will you take herbs daily? Will you make dietary modifications? Will you give up coffee/smoking/whatever? Do you wish to learn meditation? Truthful answers are incredibly helpful as I want to give meaningful recommendations that you can and will incorporate into your life. My goal is to find a way to correct the imbalances both you and I perceive before they can manifest as disease.
Part Two In our second session together (60 minutes in length and anywhere from 3 days to a month after our first session), I'll give you my recommendations, explain them thoroughly, discuss options with you and answer any questions that arise. This gives us time to go over dietary recommendations, breathing techniques, meditation or whatever else may need some explanation.
My recommendations will include any or all of: specific food recommendations, herbs, flower essences, daily self-care practices, recipes for appropriate foods, yoga postures and variations, breathing techniques, meditation practices and whatever else seems to be helpful.
Follow-Up and "Goal-Oriented" Consultations Many people find follow-up appointments after the initial sessions to be useful. This gives time to begin integrating the recommendations and see how they're working. Some people want to check in 2 weeks after the initial assessment, others want to follow up monthly for several months afterward...it's all up to you.
Prices: $200 for the initial 2-part ayurvedic assessment (payment in full at the time of the first session is expected)
$100/hr. for follow-up (generally take 30 to 60 minutes), guided meditation or other sessions.
Herbs and other products are additional. Unless specified otherwise, all consultations take place at my Gold Coast office.
Phone consultations are available! Of
course, it's ideal to meet in person but we can't always have the
ideal. There's still plenty of work we're able to do by phone. Sending a photo of yourself and your tongue is helpful but not necessary. Please email or call me to set this up.
